Health precautions on test day due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Our top priority is the health and safety of all candidates and staff.

We have introduced health precautions in the test centre on test day in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic. These precautions will mean some test day processes will be different than previously and will likely make the test day experience slightly longer for you; for example entry to and exit from test rooms will be staggered so that we can maintain appropriate physical distancing between all people.

We thank you in advance for working with us as we follow the advice of the Australian Federal and State Government health authorities to ensure a safe test environment for all.

Please do not attend your test if any of the below apply to you

  • You are currently required to be in quarantine as requested by a government or health authority
  • You have been in contact with any person suspected to be exposed to COVID-19
  • You have a cold, fever, are short of breath or have flu-like symptoms.

If any of the above apply, please contact the test partner directly as soon as possible so that they can assist with your test enrolment.

On test day

  • Please follow hygiene practices such as using the hand-sanitiser provided on test day
  • Please note we have increased physical distancing requirements in our test centre and ask everyone to respect them
  • Please listen to and follow the advice of any test day staff who endeavour to ensure physical distancing requirements are being followed
  • You may bring your own face mask and disposable gloves though you may be requested to remove them for various purposes on test day. Test day staff may also be wearing a face mask and disposable gloves.

After your test

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 less than 14 days after you took your test, you are requested to report this to the test centre by email at info@navitastesting.com. This will help ensure we can communicate with other test takers and follow government advice.

ETS has made many exciting improvements to the TOEFL test and to our test preparation materials over the last few months. 

New testing initiatives include:

  • Shortening the test to 3 hours
  • Offering all registrations a full free Practice Test with scoring information
  • Shortening the score reporting time to 6 days
  • Making test registration and account management easier with a new registration system, allowing test takers to see future available test dates online
  • Offering TOEFL vouchers at A$298 for testing in Australia through ACE Testing Hub
  • Launching a new mobile App for test registration and access to test preparation. You can download the TOEFL® Official App on Google Play or the Apple App Store 
  • Reducing the waiting period between retests to 3 days
  • Introducing MyBestScores to Score Reports

There are also updated practice materials, including the free self-guided MOOC and the for-purchase full TOEFL Practice Online (TPO) which provides a test score upon completion.

The mobile app TOEFLGo! which offers access to Prep Materials has also been refreshed. You can download this app on Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Scoring

The scoring of Speaking items has been enhanced. Four different scorers who mark anonymous test takers from randomised global responses alongside an automated scoring tool are used now to deliver even more consistent and objective scores.  This hybrid scoring model reflects our scoring of Writing items.
