What to expect on IELTS test day

Arrival time

If you have booked online and need to be fingerprinted and photographed, please arrive by 7.45 am to 8.15 am

If you have booked in person and DO NOT need to be fingerprinted and photographed, please arrive between 8.00am and 8.15am.

Latecomers

If you arrive after 8.30am we regret that you will not be allowed to enter the test room.

Identification (ID)

It's essential that you bring your valid passport with you for identification purposes. Without your passport, we won't be able to identify you and you'll therefore be unable to sit the test.

What can I bring into the test room?

Passport
Water in a CLEAR plastic bottle (no labels)

What can't I bring into the test room?

Pencil (no mechanical pencils), pen, eraser or sharpener, these will be supplied
Digital devices (mobile phones, iPods, digital watches, etc.)
Analogue watch
Wallets and keys
Jackets, hoodies, scarves, gloves
Baseball caps, beanies, hats or hoods
Cases for pens or glasses
Pieces of paper
Highlighters, rulers and correction fluid
Any cans or coloured liquids
Food of any kind

Valuables

A locked bag room is available for you to store your belongings. It's best for you to leave anything valuable at home, as we cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged items.

Illness, cancellations and transfers

Test Day Format

Sydney

The test will take a whole day, from 9.00am until as late as 6.30pm.

7.45 to 8.00am* You will be fingerprinted and photographed if needed, then seated and ID checked

9.00 to 10.00am* Writing

10.15 to 11.15am* Reading

11.30am to 12.15pm* Listening

There are no breaks during the test. You will be able to go to the bathroom escorted by a test invigilator.

Extra time will not be given.

12.40pm onwards* Speaking (15 minutes per candidate)

After your listening test, you will be issued a notification of when your speaking test is scheduled. Please report back to the centre 10 minutes prior to start your speaking test.

Please be aware that your speaking test may be as late as 6.30pm on test day.

Smoking: NETC, Sydney is covered under the Smoke-Free Environment ACT 2000 and smoking in front of the lobby area is prohibited. If you are found smoking in that area you may be fined up to $1,100. Management is obligated to report any incidences of smoking inside the building.
